This course explores the nature of trauma and the way it drives our everyday experience – often in unrecognized ways. We will look at the different ways in which we ‘store’ traumatic experience and explore different methods for approaching the resolution of traumatic experience. The class focuses on the personal transformation model of Depth Hypnosis. We will explore how Depth Hypnosis addresses the symptoms of trauma by drawing on Buddhist understandings about the nature of suffering, earth-based wisdom techniques for catalyzing change, energy medicine methods of addressing trauma on the subtlest levels of experience, hypnosis as a vehicle for the exploration of the deeper self where traumatic experience is often registered, and transpersonal psychology as a framework for integrating these methods into the clinical setting.

Module 1: Altered States of Awareness
In our first module we will look at definitions of trauma and explore Carl Jung and other transpersonal psychologists’ theoretical frameworks for working with trauma in the clinical setting. We will explore how hypnosis and other altered states of awareness offer pathways for accessing and understanding the effects of traumatic experience.

Module 2: Buddhist Psychology, Compassion & Trauma Resolution
In this session we will explore the paradigms Buddhist psychology offers regarding the generation of trauma and its resolution. These include perspectives on reincarnation, the nature of karma, karmic patterns and karmic conditioning, the Four Noble Truths, the Two Truths. We will also explore the role of compassion in the resolution of trauma.

Module 3: Ancient Wisdom & Clinical Practice
Earth-based wisdom systems offer comprehensive methods for understanding what generates trauma and powerful technologies for healing it. We will explore such concepts as power loss and power retrieval and soul loss and soul retrieval. We will also look at how this ancient wisdom can best be integrated into the clinical setting.

Module 4: Trauma, Energy Medicine & Spirit
Energy medicine provides tools for highlighting and resolving the effects of trauma on the subtlest levels of experience. We will learn how energy medicine works with the tools of sound and light to affect change on the level of spirit, which supports the resolution of trauma held on a physical, mental or emotional level.

Isa Gucciardi

In the mid-nineties, Isa began developing Depth Hypnosis as she entered into clinical practice. Her studies, both in academia and in the field, of cultural and linguistic anthropology, comparative religion, and transpersonal psychology formed the basis of her approach with clients and students. As the body of work that grew out of her clinical practice became larger, she began teaching others so that more people could benefit from the techniques she had developed. In order to accommodate the number of classes that grew out of this process, she co-founded the Foundation of the Sacred Stream, which is now a school for consciousness studies in Berkeley, California, serving hundreds of students each year. Isa teaches and speaks nationally and internationally, and she has published numerous articles, podcast episodes, videos, and the books Return to the Great Mother and Coming to Peace. She maintains a private practice with institutions and individuals in Depth Hypnosis and Coming to Peace processes. Isa speaks five languages and has lived in eleven countries. She is the mother of two children and lives with her partner in San Francisco.
